Processing

Waste Processing /Pre-sorting of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW)

Waste vehicles will be brought to the MSW storage area and the material shall be unloaded into the pits. After unloading in the pits immediately the MSW shall be sprayed with herbal inoculums to retard its decomposition.EOT cranes will pick up this material from the pits through grab buckets and feed it onto a main convey or through feed hoppers. The main conveyor shall discharge the MSW to a manual inspection conveyor at an elevated level. From the slow moving inspection convey or, all the odd sized and unwanted objects shall be handpicked at the manual separation station. These will be mostly large textile pieces, large twigs and woody pieces, consumer durables and dropped into the respective chutes for collection and dispatch.

The shredder will be used to make MSW in uniform size.

Refuse Derived Fuel and Compost Generation.

The output from Shredder is subjected to classification / density separation through Ballistic Separator where heavy and light fractions get separated.

The light fraction thus separated and conveyed to RDF yard comprises of biomass, paper, textile, fine plastics and other combustible materials such as Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF Briquettes / Fluff).

The plant will be kept functionalthroughout the year except for maintenance period requirements.

Daily operations for the RDF plant will be of 20 hrs leaving 4 hrs for maintenance. For good combustion results, following properties of RDF are targeted:

    • Particle size: (-) 100 mm

    • Bulk Density: 80 -100 kg/cum

    • Ash Content: 20% ± 5%

    • Moisture Content: 20% ± 5%

    • Compost size: ≤ 4 mm

Compost Generation

Composting process will be used to turn organic waste into bio fertilizer (manure) through aerobic fermentation.

The produced compost is suitable for use in lawns, parks, gardens and can be sold in the local market.

Compost improves agricultural production and improve soil structure & thus offers a longer term advantage over other non-compost mineral-based fertilizers.

The organic waste is directly unloaded onto the compost pad area in compost plant. The organic components of MSW separated from RDF Plant shall also be processed in compost plant to produce manure.

The design of the compost plant shall be based on the concept for windrow aerobic composting of organic (biodegradable) component of solid waste.
